Avatars
EMS guest Jared Baiterman has made a study showing that Chinese students rarely use their own photos as Avatars for their mobile screens. This is in striking contrast with students at UC Berkeley. Listen to audio clip "Mobiles China" from Jared's guest appearance in "Navigating EMS."
Photography
Mobiles have had built-in cameras long enough for there now to exist a robust world of sites, galleries and competitions based on cell phone photography: picturephoning.com. Slate has an amusing article that describes the camera phone as “the gadget that perverts, vigilantes, and celebrity stalkers can all agree on.”

Wallpaper
That tiny screen on your mobile can become an important billboard. Cell phone wallpaper is as common as clip arts with tones of free sites. The billboard can also show off your photos of Fluffy, your singing cat. Click here to experience making and applying cell phone wallpapers.

Music
Talk about taking mobile music to the edge. The HandyDandy, a troupe of 5 media artists from Austria, make music via their mobiles. They decribe theprocess as this: "The mobile Telephones are used only as interfaces and they are connected, via Bluetooth, to a computer network, a virtual opposite to the "human network"music-band." Watch the band in action on the streets of Vienna.
